Biography

I grew up in a textile mill in Zhengzhou in central China. When China opened its door to the outside world, I was among the earliest groups of Chinese students to study in the U.S. I graduated from Brandeis University in the Boston area with a PhD. degree in politics in 1994. I taught at Framingham State UniversityBridgewater State University and Thomas University before joining faculty members at Dalton State College in August 2000. I am a past president of the Association of Chinese Political Studies (2008-2010), Director of Dalton State Center for International Education (2010-2017), and am currently a Research Associate at China Research Center in the Atlanta area.

  • Georgia Asian Times 25 Most Influential Asian Americans Award (2018)
  • Faculty Award for Excellence in Scholarship, Dalton State College Foundation (2011)
  • Distinguished Service Award, Association of Chinese Political Studies (2008)
  • C. Tracy Harrington Award for Promoting International Education, USG Council on International Education (2006)
  • McBrayer Best Paper Award, Georgia Political Science Association (2004)
